I hired a babysitter!
I hired someone to watch the kids for 1/2 a day a week so I can get out of the house, work at Din's office a bit, and run an errand or two.
I know this sounds like a mountain out of a molehill to you, but this is big for us. Okay, for me. Since April of 2006 no one has watched the kids who doesn't either share our DNA or ought to, with the exception of the 30 minutes that we left Chris in the care of the pediatrician while we went to lunch while she circumcised him.
I found her through an online sitter agency, interviewed her, ran a background check, and shadowed her yesterday while she interacted with Bean and Chris. Bean adores her. She actually kicked me out of her room while they were playing together and reading Kat's copy of Where the Wild Things Are.
It took two years of convincing my husband that it didn't make us neglectful parents and wasteful spenders to call in some help now and again. Our family is wonderful, and have taken the kids plenty of times, but they are busy with their lives and jobs and other grandkids, so it's been difficult to secure a regular family babysitter.
I'm excited TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE WITHOUT A STROLLER. With my sister helping out on Bean's gym days and now Nina coming once a week, maybe I can remember that my name is Jen and not just "Mama" and "Honey, where's the extra diapers?"
Yay!

Posted by: kat at August 3, 2008 9:23 AMIt's great that you're reaching out to rediscover yourself. It's easy to lose sight of your individuality during the daily flurry of meals-cleaning-laundry-more meals-wiping-consoling-laudry-teaching and, yes... more laundry. We're always here for you, ya know that, and it's important for you and Dim to extend that trust to others. We know that Maga, Dadoo and Auntie Hannie are still #1!
