I haven't slept well at all the past few days. The Bean has decided to regress to waking up every 2 1/2 to 3 hours at night needing to be fed. I "wake up" every morning with a pounding, lack-of-sleep headache and a down-to-my-bones fatigue.
I talked to a girlfriend today who said "oh honey, she's probably teething."
So I asked Dr Internet, and he said the symptoms are:
-Excessive drooling (check. but she drools all the time, so how do I know if this is excessive?)
-Sleep disturbances, day and night (double check. She doens't want to nap any longer than 20 minutes, and I have to get up with her 3-4 times a night)
-General crankiness (on whose part? Mine? CHECK.)
-Chewing on anything and everything (check.)
I don't see any little bumps at her gum line, but if teething is just beginning, I might not, right?
So she's either teething, or acting like any normal 4 month old.
Moms? Dads? Any suggestions?
Posted by Jen at September 8, 2006 11:16 AM4 months. Definitely could be teething. Also, does she eat solid food yet? If you're giving her cereal try giving her some with her last evening feeding. Maybe she's just getting hungry in the middle of the night.
Posted by: susan at September 8, 2006 1:38 PMA shot of whiskey works well and for Sophie ... patience.
Posted by: Daddoo at September 8, 2006 2:33 PMThat's a Dadoo for ya. I gave her more practical advice. Let us know which Grand Old Wise One... er.. I mean... Grand Young Wise Parent is right, ok? :O) In either case.... patience is the key.
Posted by: mom at September 8, 2006 9:50 PMI remember thinking that Dax was teething for so long that when he finally broke a tooth I had numbed myself to all the possible signs! Sophie might be having a growth spurt that makes her hungry a lot more.
When I was getting ready to go back to work, we would make Dax wait for his 6 am feeding if he woke up any time after 4*. I think there was a 3-day adjustment period where he would cry. I don't think he's woken up before 6 am since then, and it's been more than a year!
* Please note I didn't starve my child! I fed him 3 times between 8 and 11 in the evening. - Which was the other component for our situation - Feeding copiously during wake time.
So Jen, I wish there was one right answer, but then it would be too easy, right? Best of luck!
Well, Jen, you know I don't have any kids of my own, but I've enough experience to add a few cents...My vote is that Bean is teething. How I remember those sleepless nights when I'd watch my godson so his mom could get some sleep. Of course, Bean could be freaked out by the spirits that visit you during the night. You know, John Edwards does a great reading...I digress. I vote a shot of brandy does the trick! Not for Bean, silly! For you. You're sure to get some great sleep during Bean's late night episodes cuz you won't hear her at all!
