Greek for: I will be going on vacation, Suckers.
Very early Friday morning (which I consider Thursday night) Dimitri, Athena, Sophia, and I are going to Greece (by way of Salt Lake City and New York’s rather craptacular JFK airport) for 10 days of ouzo and staring at the Parthenon.
I’m terribly excited. I wasn’t that happy about it until Dimitri paid for TWO hotel rooms for the four of us rather than ONE hotel room for all four of us. (*shudder*)
We’ll spend a few days in Athens and then drive to the other side of the country to stay in Corfu. We’re taking bets on how many screaming matches Sophie will get into with sleazy Greek rip-off shopkeepers and hoteliers. (It’s a genetic predisposition – the yelling and the ripping off.)
Borow na eho deeo ouzakia parakalo! (I wanna have two ouzos please!)
Wow, am I glad I am not mentioned in your blog. :)
I was actually coming here to email you to tell you I would not be in class tonight because I just found out we have to put my dog to sleep due to a disease, but I think I will be coming anyway. I guess your blog got my mind off it, for a bit anyway. I apologize beforehand if I break down and start sobbing in class and torch the place in uncontrolled sorrow. I will try my best not to. I don't want you to be out of your clusterfuck job.
And regardless of what Satan or Sylvia think, I would rather read your manic rants any day than discussing men's urinary habits.
Before this gets too long, I think I speak for the entire crew when I say, "Break"!
Posted by: Jed at May 11, 2005 3:56 PMNo Jed, I only mention bad people in my blog. And to be clear: I dig my students, it's the administration that's a clusterfuck.
I'm sorry that you're dog is getting put to sleep. I was a mess when I put my childhood dog to sleep after 13 years with her. I still have her collar with her rabies tag on it. I jingle it every now and then to remind me of her trotting through the house.
You can set the place on fire...I'm relatively certain that the insurance is up-to-date. It might get us a better office, in fact.
Posted by: Jen McNamee at May 11, 2005 4:17 PMOh no, a Susan was mentioned here a few posts back. I am not bad so I assume it was not me. :)
Very exciting about the trip. Have a great time. Send us a postcard via Kat. Or just bring the postcard back with you and give it to us over a drink where you share all the photos. Like all the photos of your wedding. Oh yeah..well anyway bring us a postcard.
Very sorry Jed about your dog. It is so hard to lose good friends.
Posted by: susan at May 11, 2005 5:35 PMThanks Susan. They say time heals all wounds, but I'm sure the guy who coined that phrase was probably huffing lithium.
Sorry about being a killjoy in your trip post, Jen. I was in such a daze earlier today I didn't think of that. Have a great time in Greece!
Posted by: Jed at May 11, 2005 11:16 PMman i wish i had known how to say that last greek phrase....
Posted by: kat at May 12, 2005 10:02 AMCareful, Kat, or I'll post your ouzo pictures from the wedding :)
