This is the story of Earth Shoes - popular in the 70's. They used it in their advertisements, showing footprints in the sand:
The story . . . Danish Yoga instructor Anne KalsoŽ made a remarkable discovery one day at the beach. As she walked barefoot in the sand, she realized that her heels were sinking lower than her toes. She also noticed that this improved her posture. Her breathing seemed easier. She felt relaxed. She felt...great.. And all because she discovered the natural way to walk. Anne's discovery inspired her to develop a new kind of shoe, with the heel lower than the toes.
The National Lampoon did a great parody showing bicycle tracks in the sand and explaining that the square "Earth Tire" was inspired by a yoga instrutor who noticed that this was the "natural" way for tires to be.
