Farewell, dear Peeps

I have been limiting my carbohydrate intake for five months now, and I have seen some drastic changes in my body.

I become hungry less often, I have more energy now that when I was in high school, and I can fit into clothes that I haven't been able to fit into since high school.

I am not at the weight I want to be at yet, but I am terrifically happy with the progress I have made.

Last week, I bought prizes for my SAT kids. One of the prizes were marshmallow Peeps, a truly wonderful product made by the folks at Just Born. I loved them as a kid, and waited anxiously for Easter that I could have them again.

I snuck a bite of one from my students. I was expecting the rapturous feeling I always had as a kid.

Interestingly enough - the Peep tasted awful. Not what I remembered at all. I think it's because I haven't had sugar in such a long time. I guess I have become so accustomed to Aspartame and Saccharin that I don't like the taste of sugar. Weird.

On a non-Peeps-related note: Dim was working late tonight (and still is at the time of this post) and I was bored out of my skull. I found an online salsa lesson for $7. I bought it, and had a blast teaching myself to salsa. Now if only I had someone who would dance with me.....

Way to go Jen! And you look great too, BTW.

i don't like peeps either, unless they're roasted.

Peeps are always a controversial thing around my family at Easter. One of my aunts always buys them and brings them to our family celebration. Another aunt speaks vehemently against them, talking about how their eyes or something don't break down in your stomach and how they're horribly bad for you.

I used to really love Peeps, too, but I've noticed that as I age and become a grown-up, there are certain candies and kid foods that just really don't excite me anymore.

Except for peanut butter & jelly on wheat bread...mmm....

i like spongebob mac n cheese.

Mmmm....PB&J. That sounds so good. I also enjoyed Big Stick popsicles and oreo cookies with milk.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! Love it. Don't like Peeps. Big Sticks and Oreos Yum! When I was a kid I liked those orange marshmellow peanut things. Hate them now. But then again when I was a kid I ate wonder bread slathered in butter and then covered with brown sugar. Make me ill to think about it now.

Peeps to me are like Scooby Doo: something immensely popular that I never found appealing. I think the desire for so much sugar must diminish with age. Like Susan, I've lost my taste for white bread with butter and sugar (I used white sugar). I do still like a good white bread, processed peanut butter and Welch's grape jelly sandwich; just not every day like I used too.
But those marshmellow peanut things? Yech! Even when I was a kid I didn't like those. I've seen on "Unwrapped" that millions of those things are made everyday, so somebody's eating them. Or maybe, like fruitcake, they are a forgotten remnant of FDR's make-work programs. People buy them but nobody eats them - it's just a way to keep folks employed.

LOL, keeping the orange peanut employees employed. John, you never cease to crack me up!

Speaking of those orange peanut candies (if you can call them candies), they are absolutely disgusting! Susan, I am amazed that you even liked them for a time.

I also don't care for white bread, although I remember as a young girl my mom would make me a jam sandwich, which would be two slices of white bread with a bunch of jam (usually grape or strawberry) in the middle. The thought of these sandwiches disgusts me now.

Oh yeah! A Jelly sandwich. I can eat toast and jam but ick for the jelly sandwich. I too don't know how i ever liked the peanut things. They gross me out now. However Debra LOVED peeps. I wonder if she still eats them.

Jen, may I suggest that you make either a separator between each comment OR maybe you could make the "posted by JennySmith at March 30..." line a lighter color or maybe smaller or maybe both.

i think jenny is trying to get you back for being picky about stephanie's blog. hee hee.

No--I'm not trying to get back--I just seriously have a hard time reading your comments. :(

Yeah, you're right, Jenny. I think it needs to be changed too. I don't know how to do it yet, though.

Thanks for the suggestion!
